Roger is a one-year-old German Shepherd who is only just beginning to discover what it means to be a dog.
For the first year of his life, Roger didn’t know freedom, play, or kindness the way a young dog should. When we met him, he was tethered to a dog house by a short chain, wrapped around his neck. That was his world. No room to run, no outlet for his energy, no chance to learn or trust.
And yet… within just a week of being given a real chance, Roger began to change.
The dog who once kept his distance is now seeking connection. The one who didn’t understand people is learning that hands can bring comfort, not just control. He’s brighter, happier, and starting to show us the dog he was always meant to be.
Roger is a high-energy, intelligent young Shepherd. Because he had no way to burn off that energy early on, he developed a strong fixation on chasing cars. It’s not who he is at his core, but it is something his future family will need to understand and work through with patience, structure, and consistency.
This is not a first-time dog. Roger needs an experienced, confident owner who sees his potential and is willing to guide him. Someone who can redirect his drive, give him a job, and help him feel safe in a world that once let him down.
In the right hands, Roger will thrive. He would excel in agility, advanced training, or even working roles where his intelligence and focus can shine. More than anything, he wants purpose, leadership, and someone who won’t give up on him.
Because underneath it all, Roger is a sweet, loyal dog who is ready to bond deeply with his person. He just needs someone willing to meet him where he is and show him the life he’s been missing.
Roger has already come so far in such a short time. Now he’s waiting for the person who will help him go the rest of the way.
Could that be you?
